Existing landscape as starting point

Conservation by modernisation is the slogan of the “Management, Layout and Development Plan” outlining the ideas for this special national park - with broadened objectives - in June 2002. Conservation by modernisation means that all parties involved are coming together to ensure the Drentsche Aa area can develop further along the same lines the landscape was formed in years gone by. That is more than conservation alone. After all, conservation means that one takes an unfinished situation for granted. Conservation by modernisation is using the existing landscape as a starting point for a new one. In all this, the cultural history becomes the source of inspiration.
